A new street food market has been given permission to open next to Bridgewater Hall – despite nearby residents raising noise, litter and public nuisance concerns.

Society, a £1 million venture between PopCity and Vocation Brewery, promises a ‘high quality and diverse’ offer of food and drink in Manchester city centre.

The bar and restaurant in Barbirolli Square will also provide a platform for small independent businesses, with several already signed up to trade from the premises.

Plans submitted alongside a licensing application to Manchester council give a first look at what the former Barbirolli and Pitcher and Piano unit will look like.

The main food hall will have several stalls, the Vocation bar and seating, while a colourful lounge area boasts a cocktail bar and a mezzanine bar.
